Ten Reasons to Join!
1. MPhA is an association for pharmacists from every practice setting. The association blends national and local pharmacy organizations into a single group best suited to represent all Mississippi pharmacists. MPhA has a well-known, respected, and unrelenting presence at the Division of Medicaid, the Board of Pharmacy, and the State Legislature. MPhA works every day to protect, preserve, and promote the future of pharmacy.
2. The association headquarters provides a physical building, meeting rooms, and equipment for the sole purpose of promoting Mississippi pharmacy. The Mississippi Pharmacy Foundation building is home for our organization.
3. Continuing education is offered through many opportunities such as the annual convention, pharmaceutical care certificate programs, Mid-Winter meetings, Last Chance seminars, CE at Sea cruises, district meetings, and journal continuing education articles. MPhA has a complete library with the latest textbooks used in the school curriculum, computers, videos, brochures, and materials for presentations to help you develop community and industry interest in pharmacy.
4. MPhA carries a voice for pharmacy in Congress and the Mississippi Legislature. We have a Government Affairs committee which introduces legislation in support of pharmacy and testifies against legislation in opposition of pharmacy. A full-time lobbyist spends four months in the Capitol to make sure your voice is heard. With five MPhA member pharmacist-legislators....Forrest Hamilton, Bobby Howell, Nolan Mettetal, and John Read.... your interests are well represented in the Mississippi legislature.
5. A quarterly journal for Mississippi pharmacists is published to keep you well informed. Each issue includes current events, interesting articles, and a calendar of upcoming events. The publication also includes classified advertising of position openings as a membership service.
6. At our annual convention, pharmacists can socialize, meet new friends, receive continuing education, and recognize outstanding practitioners in a relaxed, casual atmosphere.
7. MPhA has a comprehensive membership package, which includes discounts on professional liability and other insurance available to members arid student-members.
8. MPhA encourages pharmacy student participation by offering the first year membership at half price. MPhA also purchases pharmacy student name tags and sponsors a student luncheon arid an Ole Miss football reception. MPhA offers opportunities for summer internship employment arid student loans. In addition, MPhA members sponsor 20 fifth- and sixth-year students to attend our annual convention.
9. Membership opportunities have been expanded to include pharmacy technicians in MPhA.
10. MPhA offers the ability to serve and provide input and leadership in the profession. Each year an Executive Committee is elected by the membership and the best arid brightest of our profession come forward and volunteer to serve as officers in your association. Those who have served find that it is challenging but a rewarding experience. Leaders are needed at the district level and on committees. You to can get involved and help us solve the problems of our profession.
