1:00 p.m. - Mississippi Medicaid: Recent Policy and Payment Changes (1 hour of CE credit)

Presenter: Terri Kirby, PharmD  (Pharmacy Director of Mississippi Medicaid) 

  • Annual update of major programmatic changed to the Medicaid program which impact pharmacists which include:

    • Vaccine billing guidelines for NCPDP pharmacy claimes 

    • State law of 2021 which mandated price freeze 

    • New MMIS system to be impetmented in 2022 with a new fiscal agent 

    • Public Health Emergency – impact on Medicaid enrollment

2:00 p.m. - Key Legislative Initiatives in Mississippi: An Update (1 hour of CE credit)

Presenter: Beau Cox, PharmD (MPhA Director) 

  • Describe the legislative issues that impact the practice of pharmacy in the State of Mississippi including but not limited to:

    • Pharmacy Benefit Management

    • Patient Management Protocols

    • Medical Marijuana ​

3:15 p.m. - Mississippi Board of Pharmacy Updates (1 hour CE credit)

Presenter: Todd Dear, PharmD (Associate Director of MSBOP) and Catina White, PharmD, MBA

  • Review structure and functions of the Miss. Board of Pharmacy including PBM oversight

  • Summarize requirements for Pseudoephedrine/Ephedrine NPLEX sales

  • Discuss hot topics in the field

4:15 p.m. - Sometimes Sugar Isn’t the Problem: Anti-Diabetic Agents for Non-diabetes indications (1 hour CE credit)

Presenter: UMSOP Residents: Anna Rhett, PharmD, Jewlyus Grigsby, PharmD, and Lamare Haines, PharmD 

  • Explain the findings and implications of GLP-1 receptor agonist and SGLT-2 inhibitors for non-diabetes indications in cardiovascular and renal outcomes

  • Examine and understand clinical data for use in validating orders for non-diabetes diagnoses. 

  • Explore the many potential benefits of metformin use in a number of disease states

  • Apply evidence-based practices when selecting other anti-diabetic for non-diabetes indications in cardiovascular outcomes
